This website has been created to provide professionals who work with children, young people, parents and carers in Brighton & Hove with a brief introduction to the various crime and safety issues which can affect the lives of children and young people in the city.

The website aims to empower professionals with advice, information, knowledge and skills which will allow you to help improve the safety and reduce the risks to children. The content has therefore been developed to provide assistance to professionals when engaging with children, young people or parents/carers to look at the various safety implications involved in their lives.

The overall aim is that through empowering all who come into contact with children and young people we can all become more confident in tackling safety and crime concerns: To equip and supply professionals with the ability, freedom and power to help reduce risks and increase safety. Subsequently, providing information and education is an important part of helping to protect children and enable them to look out for risks and things which are unsafe or may cause them harm.

The two key concepts and messages interwoven within the websites are:

1) That if anything happens to children or young people, if someone causes them pain or hurts them, it is never their fault! Even if it doesn't seem like it, there is always someone they can turn to.

2) Children and young people should always report any crime they have experienced to the Police.

In addition, the ethos and guiding principles of protective behaviours have also been interwoven within the content of the website. These have been included in order to try and build children, young people, parents and carers understanding of safety and risk taking and how these relate to their lives.
